Phoenix Pirates

One of the more prominent and well known space pirate groups.  The Phoenix is a heavy assault capital warship, exactly how Jabba the Hutt acquired such a powerful vessel is unknown.  Is is captained by Captain Drebble, although Kochang is really in charge of the pirates.  The Phoenix pirates operate throughout the Outer Rim preying on star-liners and the occasional bulk freighter.  What makes the Phoenix stand out as a pirate group is their firepower and that they can assault more heavily protected starships.  They are also a brutally ruthless and will kill if even slightly provoked.

Type: Pirate group

Enemies and Allies: Phoenix are criminals so their primary enemy is the law.  Any law enforcement agency from planetary security, Sector Rangers and even The Empire.  Additionally Phoenix have many rival pirate groups.  In fact Phoenix don't get on well with many people at all although they do have friends in the Smugglers Guild and throughout Hutt Clans loyal to Jabba the Hutt.

Scale: 14 (Multiple Sectors)

Organisation Score Criteria: Typically the strongest rule.  But in a good standing with the Hutt, especially Jabba the Hutt, can only boost ones standing within the Phoenix Pirates.  Proving ones worth in combat, or providing valuable information and funds can also go a long way to improving ones standing within Phoenix.

Base Attack +5 to +9 +1 Disliked by Jabba the Hutt -2
Base Attack +10 or higher +2 Steal from Phoenix -2

Titles, Benefits, Duties: Phoenix don't have titles aside form starship Captain.  Prestige is just something everyone knows.  And if you don't know someones standing in the organisation then you find out quick or learn the hard way.  A majority of the Phoenix are simply thugs, or Boarders (those who board target starships).  The lucky few who prove adept with vehicles usually get promoted to a usually safer starship position, be it as regular crew, an engineer, gunner or even bridge crew.  Those that rise to the pinnacle of the organisation tend to be part of Kochang's elite group of associates, such as Kahn, Kanbu and Zaltar.

Rank Score Title: Benefits & Duties
0 3 or lower None
1 4-8 Boarder: The lowest rank is the average pirate looking to make some credits.  They are also the ones with the most dangerous task of boarding vessels, often with the threat from on board security.  A Boarder will expect to gain about 150 credits worth of booty per raid, but this is negotiable.
2 9-18 Crewman: This slightly safer position are for those skilled enough to man stations aboard starships, or primarily The Phoenix.  A crewman can expect 300-500 credits of booty per raid and access to purchase restricted weapons.
3 19-30 Quarter Master/Bridge Crew: The pirate is given some responsibility, either head of a squad of boarders or head of a section aboard a starship.  This position can bring in 1000-2000 credits per raid and has access to purchase any restricted weapons at 25% below cost price.
4 31+ Pirate Leader: The Phoenix have a small band of pirate leaders that can take command at a moments notice, although seniority it usually down to who held the position the longest.  A Pirate Leader boosts all allies with line of sight granting a +1 Attack.  The Pirate Leader can usually expect to make between 5000-10000 credits from a successful raid.

Kochang Race: Nikto Character Type: Pirate Leader

Capsule:  Kochang has risen above the constraints of his people.  He serves Jabba the Hutt, not because of the force servitude of the Nikto, but because he is a cut-throat with a thirst for blood who is damn good at getting the job done.  At first glance he appears a well built Nikto dressed in the usual slave attire a majority of Nikto wear.  Kochang is no slave.  He bought his own freedom the hard way, with money, and then in the gladiator area.  He bested several of Jabba the Hutts prize fighters, fought through the Hutts guards and had it in his power to kill his former master.  He did not.  Instead he gave Jabba his loyalty, and demanded (yes, demanded) command of a pirate group.  Impressed with Kochang Jabba did indeed give him command of a pirate group, The Phoenix Pirates (although it was not Kochangs threats that won him that).  When Kochang took over the Phoneix were a band of useless thugs with a couple of slightly armed Stock Freighters.  Under Kochangs rule they command a fleet of pirate raiders including The Phoenix, a mighty and deadly capital warship.

Daice Drebble Race: Human Character type: Pirate Captain

Capsule: Drebble is a drunk.  Years ago he was know as the Quick-draw Kid and was the best swoop racer in the Outer Rim.  That was long before he got involved with the Phoenix Pirates.  For many years he had moderate success, raiding small freighters and yachts that had wondered off the space-lanes.  Then Kochang came along and shook things up.  It's was for the better at first.  They captured an alien capital warship which they renamed The Phoenix.  Kochang wanted was power hungry though, until Drangal came along.  Drangal.  When Drangal had gone, and the Phoenix destroyed, the Hutts financed another warship, though not as powerful as the first.  Drebble was in command of the ship again, but by now he has become sorrowful and a drunk.  He is rarely sober nowadays and it won't be long until the Hutts get rid of him permanently.

Drebble is a pretty non-descript corellian.  He wears a padded vest and dirty cap.  He's unshaven and usually unwashed with the constant smell of whiskey on his breath.
Stats ?

You can pretty much play Drebble with whatever you like depending on his level on drunkenness.  If very drunk use a low level thug, if sober... on that VERY RARE occasion, use Kanbu's combat stats (below).

Zaltar Race: Nok'tek'cha Character type: Pirate

Capsule
:  Few people who know Zaltar really trust him.  Everyone else trusts him because he plays the nice guy.  It's all an act.  Zaltar is a cut-throat.  He's nasty, plain and simple.  If he has a friend it's the smuggler Callahan, but he's double-crossed Callahan so many times the smuggler now knows better than to trust the lizard.

Little is known of Zaltars past, or even what race he is, and he doesn't talk about it.  Some say he is one of a race from the Unknown Regions simply known as 'the Others', but Zaltar admits nothing.  At least nothing that resembles the truth.  What is true is his reputation.  It is often whispered in Cantina bars that Zaltar once killed a Jedi.  It's a rumour, and a boast, that Zaltar himself maintains.  He has been associated with Phoenix Pirates now for many years.  He is a Pirate, Bounty Hunter and assassin.  He is often up front, always bossing the lower thugs around.  Despite this bluster it is rare to ever see Zaltar in a fight.  He prefer to talk his way out of conflicts rather than commit to an action that could cause himself some harm.  Zaltar values his life, often at the expense of others.

Oh, and the Jedi killer rumour... it's true!

In Star Wars minis Zaltar is really a support piece for picking off mid-level uniques.  While not the toughest of characters his combination of Mobile and Evade give him increased survivability.

Kanbu Race: Klatoonian Character type: Outlaw

Capsule:  Of all of the Phoneix Pirates Kanbu is without a doubt the most dangerous.  His speed with a blaster is unparalleled, except for Drebble when he's not drunk.  Kanbu is a killer.  In fact you don't even want to argue over a spilt drink with this guy.  As for his pirate activities, forget the holo-vids with space pirates making crews 'walk the air-lock', Kanbu will simply shoot you through the head.  No survivors.  No witnesses.  Anyone who messes with this guy will die!  Right there!

Kahn Race: Weequay Character type: Pirate

Capsule
:  Kahn is the only individual both Kanbu and Kochang call a friend.  His is the quiet type, well he is Weequay, and he is a ruthless killer.  He prefers to use heavy weapons or stay at the back and use missiles.

His past is unremarkable.  Sold to Jabba the Hutt at an early age and trained for the gladiator arena's.  Kahn proved to be one of the few capable of staying alive.  But it was not until his true ruthlessness was revealed that he became a greater asset to the Hutt crime lord.  He was first given the task at collecting protection money from locals of Mos Eisley before becoming a boarder for the Phoenix Pirates.  He rose through the ranks quickly, primarily due to his favour with Jabba and Kochang to to high position he now holds as Kochangs no. 2 behind Kanbu.

Generic Phoenix Pirates Character type: Pirate

Capsule:  The crew of the Phoenix are a group of cur-throats.  Some are criminals, freed by the Hutts and forced into their servitude, there are loyal Nitko and Gamorrean thugs who want nothing more than to fight.  There are no real ranks aboard the Phoenix, except for that of Captain held by Daice Drebble.  There are positions though;

Bridge Crew - effectively the officers.  Those with the most starship knowledge and experience are used to man the bridge and primary stations.

Gunners - as is sounds, those than man the weapon systems of the Phoenix.

Engineers - with limited facilities to dock at the engineers aboard the Phoenix are as resourceful as those in the Rebel Alliance. They are often called upon to make repairs in deep space.  As a unique vessel all replacement parts have to be converted to fit, meaning the engineering section is a complete mishmash of technology.  Chief Engineer is the cyborg Mechan, he is rarely seen outside engineering.

Boarders - These are the general thugs whose job it is to board target vessels and subdue their crew.  Boarders will usually be led by members of the Bridge Crew, often Kanbu or Kochang.
